So Sunday I woke up sick...dang Valley Fever. So it was kind of a down day for us. Jim had had a late night with the shooting and we just kinda were couch/bed potatos. We settled in for the big game (Chargers vs Broncos) and were about through the first quarter when I got a call from my Mom.
She was in tears.
Never a good sign.
She said that our dog, Bear, had just bit my little sister Shyann and she was asking for a blessing before they took her into the ER to get stitched up. So my dad wanted Jim and Seth to come over.
So we went over. I was so sad....sad for Shyann, sad for Bear. Shyann was sad too, because she knew Bear was gonna have to go and felt that it was her fault. She pleaded and pleaded for him to stay. She ended up having to get about 15 stitches to her chin and inside her lip and mouth. But she was a trooper and never complained once, she was more worried about Bear.
I just love this dog so much. He's my dog. He's my boy. I'm the one who found him for my parents and I'd steal him to my apartment on a regular basis. I even let him sleep with me. Really I love this dog. And I was so sad that this happened, heartbroken.
Bear is a rescue dog. He was found on the side of the freeway covered in tar and badly abused, weighing only 30 pounds...he was skin and bones. The girl who found him was a veterinary tech and took him immediately to a ER Vet, they didn't think he was going to make it through the night, but he did. She then spent the next several months nursing him back to health and training him. Then we got him. We knew from the beginning he was aggressive towards other dogs and cats, but never ever would have imagined him going after one of us. Oh he was such a good natured, calm, loving, cuddly boy. He was guarding some stupid bone when it happened. Another aggressive/territorial issue. Oh it breaks my heart. My parents called the girl who gave him to us that night and he went back home with her last night.
I cried.
A lot.
I know it was the right thing to do, but I miss my Bear. You really truly do not understand how amazing this dog was. I'm just so sad that he was so abused and has these tendencies rooted in him somewhere, we just couldn't risk it happening again.
So I'm sad this week. Sad that there's no more Bear.
If there was one good thing that came out of Sunday it was my Chargers smashing Jay Cutler and his Broncos!!!! Woo hoo. I know 8-8 isn't the prettiest way to make it to the playoffs, but I'll take it! :)

im so sorry shaye! We just put our dog down that i grew up with, and that was so so sad...just give it time. As far as the Chargers...my husband is a HUGE fan...huge huge and so he was HUGELY ecstatic when they beat em! :-) Have a better today missy! Thinking of ya.
I am really sorry too Shaye, I love animals, especially dogs, and I know how hard it is too lose one. We've had rescued dogs before and totally understand the aggression and that it isn't their fault! We're so glad Jim is ok, you guys are in our prayers.
wow...just did a big catch up on you guys...so sorry about your dog, it's just been a week since we had to give up ours, and i keep wondering if she misses us as much.
so glad jim made it through ok...all the more experience, right? you're all in our prayers.
happy new year!
So sorry to hear about Bear. It's tuff when dogs have issues. It's heartbreaking too. We love you and hope Bear is ok.
